Profile

Kilian Weinberger is a Research Scientist at Yahoo Research in Santa Clara, California. He works on next-generation spam filtering algorithms, multimedia search and machine learning with convex optimization. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania for his work on metric learning with convex optimization in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Lawrence Saul. Prior to his doctoral studies he earned a first class honor BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford.

  • Sparta - Yahoo! Research has teamed up with Yahoo! Mail engineering to develop state-of-the-art spam detection that has dramatically reduced the amount of spam mail that can leak through to the in-boxes of Yahoo! Mail users. The project originated in 2007 when the mail engineering team approached the research team about collaborating on an improved content classifier.
